My brother died in Iraq 14 years ago. My dad never mentioned him for 14 years. Should I finally ask him why?

Mom thinks I shouldn't tell dad about this thing I noticed.and while I don't want to cause my father sorrow I just wonder why a man that lost his eldest child has never ever talked about him...it's like he never existed.

Dad however took the loss very differently.

For the first years both my mom and I couldn't even mention my brother's name without tearing up.. Now we talk about him frequently to keep his memory alive.
