I'm extremely worried that he'll end up drunk driving and killing himself, or drinking so much that he falls into a coma (which nearly happened two years ago). Is this a reason to call the cops, even if it's just for a welfare check?

It runs all over my mother's family but my Dad's grandfather is the only one anyone has said is an alcoholic.

My mother's father was an alcoholic according to my aunt though my Mom says it was a misunderstanding (he has since died of liver cancer). He would get really angry, my Dad doesn't do that.
